This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD

Hahahaha considering I literally just read someone saying that if Sony released storage as expensive as Xbox, there’d be an outcry, this should be fun.

This is actually the slowest of the 3 current PS5 beaters. Adata's newest drive is fastest, followed by Sabrent, then this drive in 3rd.

Also they do not roughly match the PS5, they exceed it by a decent margin (27%). Raw vs raw, like for like.

Is this expandable storage or replacement?

The price is not too bad for nvme 4.0 ssd, and it will be going down with time since there's competition between the ssd makers. Unlike xbox x ssd storage option since it's proprietary.

Games are smaller and the hard drives larger than at PS4 release. Games will also be able to install more quickly on the SSD. So, no, you’re ok. Never had a problem with the 500GB I got on PS4 so doubt I’ll have an issue with 825GB or whatever it turns out at.

As to the price / compatibility of these drives, Sony won't release drives, and until we get that tear down and info from Cerny / Sony we just don't know if it's compatible, but proprietary drives is Microsoft's plan and letting the market decide is Sony's. Both have merits and pitfalls.

@Medic_Alert I've said the same. Ironically given Microsoft's more "limited" SSD them going the open market route would've been better for them. Meanwhile Sony's drive is so bloody unique that they really should have gone proprietary.

@SirAngry I agree, it’s strange that each chose the pathway the other should have. Sony had the bad press from Vita though so that might have put them off.

@nessisonett to be honest, both companies are taking the mick with their storage expansion options. $220 is nearly a new console for additional storage, especially with the higher cost of games and that the size of games is staying roughly the same.

I get Sony are chasing the PC standard but to me, it just shows that the next generation is under baked and is at least a year too early. I can see a lot of consumers who can't afford the jump missing out. It wouldn't surprise me if we have a sell out launch period but a massive drop off.

A solution for the storage issues of Next-Gen, well my solution anyway!

Buy a 2-4TB External HDD and use that as your storage device for both PS4 backwards compatible titles, and also as a way to transfer PS5 games to and from the console.

Got a title you wanna play later on during your week but need to make space asap? Just transfer it to the HDD and when you need to play it again you can simply transfer it back.

£69 can grab you a good quality HDD with 2 TB compared to $90 for a measly 250GB (albeit it an SSD) that will barely last you a few Warzone patches! And even if that lasts you a while, eventually you will have to upgrade your SSD to a bigger amount.

Didn't know it was called a Solid State Drive Hard Drive, given those are two different things 🤣

But man, that's expensive. Hopefully, God willing, this drives down prices in the same way the Switch encouraged higher MicroSD storage sizes and drove prices down.

But it is weird for having such a seemingly proprietary drive, Sony isn't using proprietary storage given the inevitable confusion it'll cause trying to match a third party drive to work with a proprietary one.

Bit given their history with storage mediums...probably best not.

No way I'm paying anywhere near that much for extra storage. I'll just install games as I'm playing them, its not that big of a deal, especially if they're meant to install quicker now anyway

@AdamNovice The way MS are going at the minute we might be surprised and they will lower prices to stay competitive. They want everyone on Gamepass for that steady flow of income.

Can't say i would ever bother with it, unless it did decrease in price dramatically. Never been an issue for me to delete games and then re install them if I want to play again further down the line. I understand that in 3/4/5 years time it may be worthwhile as the size of an expansion could be considerable, but until then its not on my mind at all.

I feel like Xbox choice of memory is literally a footstep into ps vita memory flop. Sony did much better with memory decision.

@AdamNovice All technology drops in price. Doesn't matter if it's proprietary or not. Also the Xbox one is hot swap, so that's a bonus.

@Nexozi it's not about the price difference. Microsoft is losing on storage, because the only place you will be able to use that memory is Xbox series. Sony in other hand relying on third parties , the storage is much faster and can be reused later down the line on PC. Plus prices will be vulnerable to competition and will drop much faster. Xbox made ps vita memory cards flop choice.

@AdamNovice They haven't got any specific games to sell the console, just backwards compatibility and Game Pass. Sony only has a handful of games though so neither are in a really strong position at this stage.

There's a catch here if you're getting it for a PC:

"Attached to a M.2 slot with PCIe 3.0 (the interface that most of today’s motherboards support, if they have an M.2 slot), Samsung says the 980 Pro can reach sequential read speeds of 3,500MB/s and up to 3,450MB/s write speeds for the 1TB model."

Not a problem for the PS5, just something to bear in mind if you were gonna also use it on PC. Though the built-in PS5 SSD can do compressed read speed of 8-9GB/s I'm not sure what the 980 Pro can do. I'm not sure how this typically scales since the Series S has a raw read speed of 2.4 and a compressed read speed of 4.8, exactly double, whereas the PS5 compressed speed is less than double. So the raw vs compressed differs with each drive.

@deathaxe I am talking about an external HDD. You can get a 2TB for £69 new from Argos and they're reputable brands like Seagate and WD

@ellsworth004 Should do mate seeing as they have said you can store games on a HDD but not play them until they're on the SSD, the HDD is also where you can play PS4 games on the PS5.

Xbox have confirmed you can do this with the Series S/X so Sony will likely follow suit.

@Matroska actually ps5’s compressed speed can reach up to 22GB/s, 9GB/s is the “typical” speed.

I've had pretty good luck with my Samsung SSD in my PC, and I've wanted to put one of these V-Nand SSDs in.

@Bamila How often are you going to be taking it out of ur PS5 and putting it into ur PC? You would like to think you'll be keeping it in the PS5 for at least a year or so. Then maybe upgrading. My plan is to put 1TB into both and then use my external HDDs to swap games back and forth.

@ellsworth004 as of now Sony have said you can play your PS4 titles off an HDD, it is likely possible to play off SSD too.

Am unsure which solution will be needed to play the top 100 titles in boost mode, I suspect SSD needed for those, but simple BC games can be done either way.

@Matroska Not sure the point of that comparison. People with PCIE3.0 boards will be buying cheaper/slower PCIE3.0 ssds. This is clearly for people with good 3rd gen Ryzen boards or the upcoming 4th gen ryzen and 11th gen intel, which are all 4.0

@ellsworth004 there is literally no reason you’d “need” a hdd to play ps4 games. You can use an ssd inside the PS4 to play them even.

Only info I could find, no wording on whether you can or cannot use SSD for BC games, I suspect that certain boosted games might need the SSD.

The PS5 will be capable of installing and playing PS4 games from an external hard drive containing the titles downloaded from the current generation console, Sony and PlayStation has confirmed.

@2cents Xbox's expansion is shaped like a card that can be swap out easily, perhaps meaning someone can swap in a specific a card on-demand to play a game on that card. Since Sony is allowing third-party solutions, it's possible Sony may not be allowing on-demand swapping. So if this is the case, getting a large card upfront may be important compared to getting a bunch of smaller cards over time.

For example, the PS4 allows for third-party harddrive to be added but it involves opening of the unit to insert it and then an involved migration of the data. Not exactly designed to be swappable.

Downloads will be smaller and so installing faster. Especially over WiFi too due to the PS5 using WIFI 6. So it’s going to be better than last gen.

of course if you are talking about dugital download, and the problem is with ones internet speed, then not much to be done about it and has nothing to do with these new gen machines.

I'm wondering if the Samsung 980 pro is fast enough even at 7GB's raw, because Sony said aftermarket SSD drives would have to have faster speeds do to the PlayStation 5 SSD using 6 pathways on it's Custom Flash Controller and typical 4.0 NVME's only using 4 so they have to have a larger and faster throughput speed to compensate for the slower bottleneck of those 4 pathways instead of 6.

@thefourfoldroot I don't use wifi with my ps4 and the download is much slower than my internet connection. Most likely the ps5 will use the existing PSN infrastructure so I'm not expecting a radical change in delivery speeds. And while ps5 updates may be more efficiently packed, the size may still increase due to things like 4K-quality textures.

@2cents Are you honestly going to buy a 250GB or a 500GB? Each to their own, but how many games are you going to get on that? Better buying a 1TB and a larger external drive. Then just switching out as you need.

Sizes have already been announced and they’re around a quarter to a third smaller if I recall, even with the 4K assets. Plus that’s the whole game, that can be further reduced if devs decide to split the single snd multiplayer aspect for example.
Plus, honestly, I don’t get games day one, so I don’t mind downloading for a couple of hours while I’m at work or sleeping.
Just have no need for so much space. Not for one person who finishes games snd then gets rid of them anyway. Maybe if it was supporting an entire gaming household they’d have to split the cost between them.

@Nexozi for those of us who play on PC also I could easily set myself buying a 512GB drive and swapping it into my PC when I get a motherboard that supports NVMe 4. By the time I make that upgrade 1-2TB should be fairly cheap.

@Medic_Alert as others have said I think Sony are scared if proprietary storage ever since the the PS Vita, which is a shame, because in the case of the PS5 it really, really makes sense. If either next-gen system really deserved bespoke storage it's the PS5.

@nessisonett as I've said above, the PS5 really needed to bespoke storage, and ironically the XSS|X could've done with the off the shelf route, because those systems could go with beefier options and much of their architecture isn't specifically built around a set SSD paradigm.

Of course they haven't outlined exactly how it works yet, but I'd say it would be better just to get a huge regular HDD and just move games back and forth between. Hopefully the process to do so is smooth

@theheadofabroom I play on PC as well, not much recently due to the amount of cheaters. So I've just been sticking to the PS4 Pro and one X. With 500GB you could get away with for the time being. But considering modern warfare is over 200 the 250 is not really an option. Plus the price of the 250 as well. Hopefully the file sizes do drop a good bit. As I said I'll be going for the 1TB and that'll do me for a good few years. By then all the exclusives will have built up and I'll be sick of switching them about. 😂

No. You're correct they are a $10 difference. But the Xbox drives are also less than half the speed so he has a point. Technically you're getting more value from these third party offerings, which as others have said, competition will drive some hard bargains for us.

MS' decision could bite them on the bum here considering that since they'll have to use that fancy priority case manufacturing will likely have to be approved by Microsoft.

It's internal. They use a m.2 PCIe4.0 bus on the motherboard. Should be easy even for average consumers to install.

@NEStalgia Hopefully it's easier than my son's Acer Nitro 5. The laptop was nice enough to have open slots for SSD, HDD and RAM, but it took 11 screws and removing the entire bottom to access them. Acer 4 had a small compartment hatch that they removed in the 5. So I added both an SSD (512 to 256 for 768) and RAM (8+8=16) at the same time and that's that. Hopefully it's enough for now, he's on campus. Nice kit, but 11 screws was nuts.

Sony has made the PS3 and PS4 HDD upgrades fairly easy, even on the trash PS3 Super Slim w/ 12GB HDD chips, so I think PS5 will be OK. I do think in that humongous box they should have added space for a laptop HDD as the Nitro did, for internal game swapping if not playing, b/c 2 USB ports sucks. I charge my PS4 controller - every 6 hours - on my Switch dock with the 10' cable that came with my Power A faux. My PS4 has PSVR and external HDD attached. PS4 is NOT happy if you unplug the external HDD to charge your controller. 😝 If PS5 works with external drives and PSVR it needs more than 2 USB ports. It's huge, they could fit half a dozen. 😂

I kind of want Sony to come out with their own official expansion options so we are getting exactly the same specifications as the on-board storage and not have to worry about shoehorning a third-party specification to meet the PS5's specification.

And my understanding is that PS4 games can be installed on slower storage so there will be support for storage with different performance levels. So we need some official clarification on what needs to be installed where and what are the pros and cons of that decision.

wow, I thought it would cost way more considering it is twice as fast as the MS drive. the good thing Sonys way will go down quicker in price as more come in with higher storage capacity.

People seem really concerned about needing a USB port to charge the controllers. Am I the only person with a phone charger next to my sofa? I'll just use that and save trailing a cable across the room.

@badbob001 or you can just plug external harddrive into PS4. Many people use 1tb ssds on internal PS4 to lower the load time, while external being hdd 4+ terabytes, cuz HDD is cheaper. Like me.

Edit: Also PS4 internal storage swap is literally just unscrew one bolt, take out HDD, put new one and screw bolt back in. I don't know why you make it sound so complicated.

@GADG3Tx87 I never mentioned the speed difference. Because Both systems are using different speed internal memory. The memory that MS are selling matches their internal memory exactly. This 3rd party one for Sony doesn't and isn't going to be as easy to fit. Think for the average non tech parent the MS external memory will be handier. The longer we can hold off buying them the cheaper both will get. Gonna be a good generation. Both Sony and MS are in strong positions.

@badbob001 we will benefit more from Sony not doing that I always respected that never tried to make hard drives a Sony only thing with PS3/PS4. I have been changing hard drives in my Sony consoles for years so easy to do.

@theheadofabroom I don't know how DS5 will work, but DS4 was finnicky to charge. It would work with some chargers, and not with others. I could plug it into a million USB wall chargers and it would never start charging. If you plug it into a PC it charges. If you plug it into PS4 it charges. But if I plug it into most wall/phone chargers, or my Switch dock or monitor USB ports....it won't charge. I assume DS5 is the same, but we don't know. (Switch Pro controller, however charges on anything I plug it into.)

@rjejr Seriously, WTF is with 2 USB ports. Between controllers, PSVR, external storage, people that use USB headsets, people that use fight sticks.....that's nuts. I presume USB hubs work with it, and that's why, but it's another case of Sony providing the absolute minimum at maximum price and telling you to accessorize the missing pieces.

I remember when my 3DS came with a charging dock in the box, and my Vita told me I had to spend another $25+ on the charging dock. And then when I got my 3DS charging dock, I just plopped the console in and it charged. And when I got my Vita charging dock it was this tiny 1oz piece of plactic that would tip over and fall off the table under the weight of its own cable. My Vita has a chip off the corner of the screen as a result of this. And that was an OEM accessory.

Not for me personally.....after having to install memory in a Thinkpad that involved removing the keyboard, the drainage tray, and various ribbons onlyto get to slots shrouded by other components, and after replacing four drifting joycon sticks, I'm ready for about anything. But ripping open a shiny new PS5 to plug an SSD into the board still sounds unappetizing. I'm hoping this is like 4Pro and the lid just snaps off, or is this 'user upgradable" drive slot a "get out the spudgers and tri-wings" kind of job?

@NEStalgia before you plug device into charging from a wall , make sure your device that you charging supports the voltage output. You can easily fry your electronics. However, most appliances and gadgets nowadays have smart ways to prevent it, so my guess is that ds4 has it programmed. I can't speak for American market, but in Europe we use 5 volts as standard, which means if you plug anything above 5 volts and device doesn't support it then it won't charge. You can charge it with lower input however, but it will take longer to charge. That's why you should always see adapters when you buy electronics , it says all the max outputs and inputs. On dual shock 4 it says on the back of the controller, little sticker

It says: DC 5V == 800mA

PS5 has 4 usb's. 1 type c and 3 type a. 2 on the front, 2 on the back. It's really not hard to spot them yourself...

I doubt they'll make it complicated since most consumers who opt for a console do so for convienience. I suppose we'll see when they arrive.

For now I still use my 8TB HDD from the PS4. Although when the time comes that I have several games I can't see me doing 'musical transfers' for long. I just want to play games.

@nessisonett And that's without these being in the PS5 form factor and format Sony is going to need. You can expect an additional $100 on the price tag of consumer ready PS5 expandable storage. I would like a timeframe on when we can expect them too, I'm guessing holiday 2021 but it could be longer.

This isn't bad though, I was anticipating something in the range of $400-$500. The costs of these drives has gone done a fair amount in the last few years.

@No_Cartridge you might want to rewatch that section again. It was a comment to say we’d start to see pcie gen 4 saturation and that was all, it never once said or implied that specific speed was necessary.

@Bamila Really 4? Thanks, I checked Google but I only found it having 2 in the article I posted the pic from. 4 is manageable. I suppose the other 2 are on the back? Every year or so I check the back of my PS4 Slim thinking there just HAS to be 2 more ports back there for my PSVR and external HDD but there never are.

I wouldn't trust my external HDD to play games thru a hub. PSVR might be OK, I'm not even sure what that cable is for, so I suppose a hub could work for that and charging.

Still, good to hear PS5 has 4. Hope they don't drop 2 on the Slim, Slims are always dropping something.

@Bamila Ahh, good, 4 is better and in line with Pro. I missed the type C on there and forgot about the front one. The blue glowy curves distratedy me.

USB is standard. All chargers are "usb standard" chargers, and all devices handle the input voltages by the standard. You shouldn't be able to fry any USB device on any USB charger, though devices won't charge if the output is insufficient, and Switch had that one odd issue where if you plug the USB-C into a USB-A you could fry it due to resistance unless you had a capactitor on the cable. But DS4 has "something" going on where it seems to need a handshake of some sort that PC-type devices provide, and dumb chargers don't. It's one of very few devices that I've ever seen do that.

@MarcG420 @theheadofabroom You will not be able to by an NVMe M.2 off the shelf and stick it in your PS5. Sony has said they need to approve all SSD's that are compatible with the PS5. They have to be made in a special way(so the data flows correctly and the size of drives is universal) and they have to be formatted in a specific way. There really is no difference between what Sony and MS are doing other than MS partnered with Seagate and Sony is allowing all SSD manufacturers the opportunity to submit models for PS5 drives. MS's solution is more expensive in the long run but you can actually buy the product now for $200. If the PS5 had drives out now they'd by $300+. But you likely won't see any until late 2021/early 2022 and the price should be less then especially if you have a couple manufacturers competing.

@710King it's a standard form factor, but Sony will be certifying that certain models meet the minimum performance standards required. That is all. I have no idea where you're getting the rest of your info from.

@MarcG420 Where are you getting that information? According to Sony's own conferences and press releases 9GB/s was what they were getting on the kernel/OS, 7-8 was in game speed with a large variable rate.

PS4 OG or very first model had 4 usb type a. I don't know about the slim version, and my very first PS4 Pro has 3, 2 in front and 1 in back

@NEStalgia I've always had problems charging my PS4 controller. I bought a 2nd legit 1, I usually buy fauxs, b/c the battery life is terrible. And when I charged it on my PC it was no longer connected to the PS4, so I had to unplug something to plug it in. Meant to unplug the seldom used PSVR, unplugged the external HDD instead. Ugh. I'm amazed it charges off the Switch dock but it's great b/c that's how I always game on Switch, with my controller connected to that cord. Well except Luigis Mansion 3 where the Joycon Rumble was needed for boos.

And while it was great to be told PS5 has 4 USB ports we'll need 1 of those for the PSVR camera adapter. The PS4 has a special camera connector. Or PS5 camera. But 4 should still work, not likely to have Skylanders, Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions portals hooked up to PS5. And yes we owned them all. So. Many. Portals.

So PS5 should be fine with 4. PS5 Slim will probably drop 2 just b/c. But that's years away, new Gilead gov't may outlaw electricity by then, who knows. 🤷

@Nexozi yes, but if there is no demand, there won't be supply and since Microsoft is only one dictating the prices they have full control of how much consumer will pay. Also, the manufacturing costs will go down of course over time, but again, Microsoft has a full monopoly and they are the ones to determine prices

@theheadofabroom I think ya'll are a bit confused by their wording. The drives will essentially use off-the-shelf hardware but will need special formatting, will need to be specific sizes like 825gb or 1.65tb, and will need to fit in the physical form factor of the PS5. This has been clear since Mark Cerny's conference. If this wasn't the case, additional storage on the PS5 would be much slower than the internal storage and would open up a litany of problems. Digital Foundry did a great job breaking this down.

@Bamila Thanks, did some further googling after my initial findings turned out to be erroneous. Glad to see 4, even if it means contacting Sony to get an adapter for my PSVR camera.

@Bamila Yes, but that would down the line. They'll no doubt have a lot of them already ordered. If nobody buys them then eventually you would think MS would drop the price to get rid of them. Unfortunately due to the games sizes (even if they are dropping a bit) 1TB is not enough. Both Sony and MS are forcing users to get the expanded storage by going with that size.

@Bamila Don't you have to ensure your saved data is backed up somewhere else, do the swap, and then download the os, saved games, and reinstall all your games? This process makes me think you can not just swap between multiple harddrives to play different games.

My point with the harddrive is that after you upgrade to the larger harddrive, you never use the previous harddrive anymore. So if PS5 upgrades are like that, then if you buy a specific size expansion and later on you need more, you can't just buy another of the same size and you need to buy an even bigger version to hold the stuff from the previous expansion and to hold future stuff. But if the system allows you to swap out the additional storage like game carts, then it's not an issue if all your carts are the same size. SSD is costly and it's a bad investment if you have to replace the existing and then never use it again.

Expanding the ps5's storage doesn't require the existing storage to be replaced so it is possible for them to allow for swapping of the secondary storage without affecting the core function of the system. But if the expansion is internal , then it doesn't seem like swapping is part of the plan.

@David187 we don't really know the cost of expanding the ps5 yet because sony hasn't qualified this product. This product may have the required bandwidth, but is that all that is needed? Does having less channels affect latency? Is that quoted bandwidth for sustained operations or just in short bursts? Likely the quoted bandwidth is under the best-case single-task scenarios, but does it perform as well under mixed read/write operations? Maybe something that copies sony's implementation will be more costly. Maybe a simpler but faster implementation is good enough to compensate and be compatible. Too soon to tell.

I'm curious if you can transfer directly you're USB game drive from PS4 to PS5 without the need to delete all the games and reformat it specifically for PS5. That would be nice.
Even I wrote to Cerny on twitter regarding failures if it's possible to install the OS on the expanded storage drive. I hope sony didn't skim out on cheap drives for PS5 for this to be a issue.

The thing is people forgot that MS proprietary cards can only be used on Xbox Series X，and since it's only PCIe 4.0 x2 even if you have same interface as the cards have on PC with PCIe 4.0 x4，it would still run at x2 speed. Plus the proprietary cards on XSX has only 3 year warranty whereas the standard for any PCIe 4.0 x4 TLC drive on pc is 5 year warranty. And if you plug x4 drives on x2 interface it will maxout x2 speed while on x4 it can run as fast as it could at x4 speed. MS is just selling an inferior product here. And Seagate is not known for good SSD. Hell their main products HDDs are not known for good build quality. AN D they are selling it at same price as high end PCIe 4.0 x4 price？I call THIS anti-consumer

What will be interesting is if the PS5 has multiple M.2 slots and if the PS5's custom drive is removable or integrated onto the motherboard.

It is possible that the M.2 slots/chip could be designed in a way to recognise whether an M.2 card or PS5 custom drive/card is inserted. It could be a two slots in one system and they just use the appropriate chips.

With the above situation, Sony could sell their own drives as well. If the Sony drive fails, it would be nice to be able to replace it or for the system to ignore it and point to the M.2 card.

The M.2 cards will probably require you to remove the white panel to install. The chips will get quite warm, so the ventilation/cooling system should be designed to keep these chips cooler as well.

@Gravity_Bear the included storage is likely to be soldered to the board. Cerny's talk mentioned that the included drive has much more connectivity to other components than you could get through the m2 interface, which is why expanded storage will need to be rated faster to make for similar performance.

Even though I don't have a console pre-ordered yet, I'd still invest in this.

@theheadofabroom True, true to the connectivity and requirements of the extra speed to be able to match the PS5's drive.

But if the hypothetical slot for Sony's custom drive is different to the M.2 slot then it could be more capable. It could have 10 times the amount of contacts in the slot and be capable of delivering the data at optimal efficiency. True that being soldered on would be more efficient and it is quite likely what they'll do, but doesn't rule out other options.

Sony may have extra chips to prepare the data that comes off of the M.2 cards and Sony's drive may not need any extra chips for this.

What I meant previously wasn't for the cards to both connect to the M.2 slot, but to use the same bay and potentially some of the same contacts, but have more contacts for the Sony card and bypass any M.2 related systems.

But we'll have to wait and see what the solution will be. It can be slotted and be more efficient than the M.2 interface. Can't wait for the tear down, to see what the inside is like.

I'm personally hoping for a slot, so that when the drive fails, I can replace it without having to do surgery on the poor thing.

@rjejr Remember back when the ps3 had been announced? That thing had like 6 or 7 usb ports and was supposed to support 6 conttollers connected to it at once, I just looked at mine (the og model) and it has 4 usb slots. There’s no reason the ps5, which is way bigger than the piano black ps3, couldn’t throw a few more ports on there.

@Gravity_Bear eh, I still doubt it, but it's possible. I'd prefer to be skeptical and then surprised than the other way round. I also wouldn't worry about SSD life, having been in the wild for a while SSDs actually tend to be a lot more reliable than traditional HDDs, mainly because of the lack of moving parts.

@jbreez00 I have the non-backwards compatible PS3, the one that was still fat but only had 2 USB ports. I bought some weird mutliport connector that went on the front.

I am glad the PS5 has 4, 2 on the back, 2 on the front, even if the camera needs 1, I think the other 3 should be enough after plugging the external drive in the back, maybe the PSVR in the front. That leaves 1 for charging. I think toys-to-life games are not making a comeback next gen, 3 of those each needing their own portal killed me.

I actually see these smaller drives as a blessing in disguise!

I have a 4TB drive on my Xbox and over 100 games installed, and I can never decided what the hell to play. I just sit scrolling up and down the huge list.

Maybe the smaller drive will help people actually install a game and finish it.

Delete the game and move on. There'll be plenty space to have a few single player games and a few multiplayer titles.
